Local Cut

One of the things I find so frustrating about finding all of these amazing paper creations is not being able to see them in person... So, it's rather delightful to be able to feature an exhibition I've seen. The magnificent work of Emma van Leest is currently on show at the Edwina Corlette Gallery in Brisbane, and there is definitely something quite breathtaking about seeing these exquisite cuts at close range. Van Leest first witnessed the art of paper cutting whilst on residency in India where it is regarded as a devotional act, with each cut seen in the context of a prayerful ritual. Melding this observance with her own devotion to the hand-made, van Leest is now a leading Australian artist in this beautiful craft. You can see the Brisbane exhibition here and more of van Leest's work on her website here. I've added a few more pics below too :)
