I think it's pretty obvious that the works I admire the most have a generous dose of humour illuminating them ;) ... and so it is with this wonderful find. Ivano Vitali painstakingly recycles newspaper by working strips into long thick threads which he then rolls into massive balls resembling your everyday ball of yarn. These in themselves would be magnificent arts pieces - graphic over-sized representations of circular motion of recycling. And he does this without the use of scissors or glue in a performance of slow manual sculpting for exhibitions where audience participation is encouraged. If I were lucky enough to be there this would be more than enough to have me applauding and raving to everyone I know, but it gets better... Vitali then takes it all one step further by knitting, crocheting and weaving on his home-built loom his special version of print yarn into incredible textiles. What comes after applause?
