Paper is traditionally something we have used a lot in the dining experience.. napkins, placements etc... so, it's not surprising that a few enterprising designers have chosen to extend this experience by making it a touch more practical. London-based, Italian designers, Sara Ferrari and Marcella Fiori, have done just this with their product, Dining Agenda. This nifty little design is a book of placemats, designed for note-taking during meals. The book's wooden cover has press-out cutlery and contains 14 disposable, paper placemats with a special corner space, perforated for easy removal of your notes once your dining has finished! I don't think I've enjoyed such a giggle since I first saw Days-of-the-Week underwear! This is great fun, I think, but you'd need true dedication to your daily ritual to do it justice :) Fabulous design... see more at their website here.
I think Fiori + Ferrari's work is meant to have a humourous approach to it. Just look at these children's armchairs (below). Also featured on their site are these wonderful Pad Paper Armchairs. Made from cardboard, they are designed for the short life that children's furniture often has, and so with recycling in mind! This self-assembly piece has a drawing board incorporated on the back. It was a winning entry for Playing Design - the international design competition.
