People of the Book #4: Mia Pearlman

The 4th entry from my wonderful Paper book find and we're back to the 'ethereal' with the divine art works of Mia Pearlman. These site-specific paper installations have been described as a meditation on chance, control and the ephemeral nature of reality. I really like this description. It so beautifully encapsulates all I felt but couldn't articulate upon first seeing these pieces. It's like the random chaos of nature, at once beautiful and overwhelming when viewed as a whole, and yet so exquisite and humbling when focussing on a small portion. Okay, yes... it's a stunning papercut that looks amazing in a room too! But that's what I love about so many of the paper works – their creators are both artists and artisans; the ephemeral dreamer and the skilled technician, if you know what I mean? Love Mia Pearlman's skill and I love her ideas about the world we live in. She has her own website here, and on it you'll find a must-see photo story of how she creates and then installs her pieces from initial sketches to the opening night!
